Alabaster police say 29-year-old Brandon Howard Daniel, a case worker with the Shelby County Department of Human Resources, allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a female client during a home visit.

"It's a serious crime, very unfortunate that somebody who allegedly committed this crime is an employee in this stature where they are supposed to be helping the public and instead they hurt," said Curtis Rigney, Chief of Police for the Alabaster Police Department.

Daniel, who was a Birmingham police officer before resigning earlier this year, is charged with soliciting for purpose of influencing official action, indecent exposure, harassment and theft of property.

Police said the incident in question happened Wednesday morning and after the victim filed a complaint, an investigation was quickly launched. Just one day later, authorities arrived at DHR's office to execute a search warrant in hopes of recovering evidence they believe Daniel may have taken from the crime scene.

Barry Spear, a spokesman for the state's DHR, offered a short statement regarding the allegations and the investigation, saying only that "Daniel was no longer employed with DHR." Spear went on to add that DHR was working closely with authorities in the investigation.

Daniel is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $40,000. A court date has not been scheduled.
