1 of 2 pilots killed in UPS plane crash identified as 37-year-old woman

One of two UPS pilots killed in an early morning plane crash in Birmingham has been identified.

Shanda Carney Fanning, 37, and another pilot died when the Airbus A300-600F cargo plane they were flying during a routine flight from Lousiville, Ky. to Birmingham crashed in a field near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport around 5 a.m. today. Fanning had been a longtime Tennessee resident and was a 1994 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School.

According to mylife.com, Fanning is listed as a resident of Anchorage, Alaska.

The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to hold its second news conference of the day regarding the crash beginning at 4 p.m. The NTSB deployed a GO-Team from Washington, D.C. earlier today to Birmingham to begin investigating the incident.

The identity of the second pilot has not yet been released.
