Family identifies 37-year-old Tennessee woman as pilot killed in UPS plane crash

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Family members have confirmed the co-pilot of the UPS plane is 37 year old Shanda Fanning. She and the pilot of a flight from Louisville died Wednesday morning when the plane crashed near the airport.

According to ABC affiliate WKRN in Nashville, Fanning is from Lynchburg, Tennessee. Her husband works for the Jack Daniel's Distillery.

The name of the pilot has not been released.

Wednesday morning, a spokesperson for UPS asked for "patience and thoughts and prayers for those involved." Jeff Wafford described UPS pilots as highly experienced often coming from commercial airline or the military.

NTSB arrived on scene around 11 a.m. to investigate the crash. It happened just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.
