There was no distress call to the control tower.

Crash site is about 900 yards from airport - only property damage appears to be to trees and power lines.

Plane crash location is 8900 Airport Road - a field before the landing strip

Update:
Sources tell ABC 33/40 that there are 2 fatalities in this crash. The bodies were found approximately 100 yards from fuselage.

Birmingham Police confirm a "large aircraft crash" happened early Wednesday morning.  The area of the crash is near Airport Road and Huffman Road.  Officers will be closing some roads to allow for emergency responders to have unrestricted access to the area.

The ABC 33/40 photographer on the scene says it is a UPS cargo plane.  Toni Herrera-Bast with the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport has just confirmed that a cargo plane did crash.  However, she says that is all the information she has at this time.
