Newest Member Makes Debut to University Fans

Posted: Updated:

One of the newest and youngest members of the University of Tulsa made her debut this week as an ambassador for the school.

Goldie, a 4-month-old golden retriever, will serve as a TU ambassador, uniting the spirit of our campus and our community. As a goodwill ambassador, she will be on hand for important campus and alumni activities such as Final Bell and matriculation and she will attend home football games and tailgating parties beginning in September.

"Goldie is a wonderful addition to the TU family. Her presence and purpose are in line with the university's mission and will further enhance our ability to serve the Tulsa community," university president Steadman Upham said. "We envision Goldie quickly becoming part of the fabric of TU."

Fans also can see her at the university's True Blue Neighbors volunteer projects and community events including Kendall-Whittier neighborhood gatherings and Bark in the Park night at the Aug. 21 Tulsa Drillers game, according to the release.

As of right now, Goldie is living in Oklahoma City as she works to be certified as a service animal. She will move in with her TU family in Tulsa in spring 2014.

Some of her current training includes learning to lead the Golden Hurricane football team out onto Skelly Field alongside TU mascot Captain Cane. And soon she will be ready to deliver smiles to hospital patients or nursing home residents as the university's representative, according to the release.

Fans can meet Goldie during tailgate activities before every home football game this fall. And if you want more of her from the comfort of your phone, check her out on Instagram at TulsaGoldie.
