BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford football team went through its first full scrimmage of fall camp Saturday morning at Seibert Stadium.

The Bulldogs scrimmaged for nearly two hours on Saturday. All six quarterbacks on the roster saw time under center, with four of the six throwing touchdown passes.

Returning starter Andy Summerlin completed 14-of-20 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Ben Neill completed 10-of-18 passes for 106 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Carson Barnett was good on 3-of-5 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, while freshman Albert Mitchell completed 2-of-3 passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.

"We're further ahead than we were at this point last year," Samford Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach Travis Trickett said. "We have to keep taking steps to correct things. We have a long way to go, but I like a lot of the things that we saw. A lot of guys stepped up and made plays."

Redshirt freshman Jake Wilks led the running game, carrying the ball 12 times for 110 yards, including touchdowns of 12 and 70 yards. Stanley Robinson rushed six times for 72 yards, while D'Morrise Bledsoe had 10 rushes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiaha Gates rushed three times for 12 yards. Starting running back Fabian Truss was held out of the scrimmage.

"Our running back group is pretty solid," Trickett said. "Coach (James) Joseph does a good job with them. We're excited about all of our guys."

Freshman Karel Hamilton led all receivers with five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Emmanuel Obajimi caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Kelsey Pope had four catches for 26 yards, while Jauan Davis caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Sinclair caught two passes for 56 yards and a score.

"I thought all of the receivers played well," Trickett said. "We'll look at the film and try to get a two-deep going in the next week or so, and start really developing them."

Defensively, Calvin Ruff and Brinson Porter had a sack each. Caleb Hullett had one fumble recovery, and Garrett Horst intercepted a pass. Brandon Wilkinson had one pass break-up in the scrimmage.

On special teams, freshman place-kicker Reece Everett was good on all three of his field goal attempts, making kicks of 24, 35 and 42 yards. He also made both of his extra-point attempts. Warren Handrahan added a 37-yard field goal, and made all three of his PAT attempts. Michael O'Neal made his lone extra-point attempt.

The Bulldogs will return to practice Sunday afternoon. The workout is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Samford opens the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30, when the Bulldogs travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State in the Georgia Dome. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) start.
