The 2013 USA Today Sports preseason college football coaches poll was released today, and the two-time defending national champions are the unanimous No. 1 team in the country.

The Alabama Crimson Tide garnered all but four of the 62 first-place votes as Nick Saban's squad prepares to begin its quest for three straight BCS National Championships. 'Bama will hold its first Fall practice Friday.

Coming off an undefeated season in 2012, Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked second behind Alabama. The Oregon Ducks, led by new head coach Mark Helfrich, are listed as the No. 3 team in the nation while the Stanford Cardinals and Georgia Bulldogs round out the remainder of the top five, respectively.

It should come as no surprise that the Southeastern Conference is well represented in the preseason poll. Five of the top 10 teams hail from the league, one that is currently on an unparalleled streak of seven consecutive BCS titles. The SEC has a poll-best six teams in the Top 25.

Number of teams ranked by league:

SEC:  6

Pac 12:  5

Big 12:  5

Big 10:  4

ACC:  2

MWC:  1

The mercury is rising, but the air conditioner at the main Birmingham Public Library is broken. That led the library to reduce hours for at least the next six to eight weeks. The needed repairs are the result of a January cold snap that ruptured the air conditioner coil in the library's main air handler. Parts have been ordered, and repairs will be scheduled once the parts arrive. Starting Monday, April 28, the downtown location at 2100 Park Place will open at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., Mond...More >>
