There hasn't been a year that Josiah Posey hasn't attended Birmingham's R.E.S.P.E.C.T Rally.

This year will be no different.

"For those that need the supplies it is essential. It's a good start off to go back to school knowing that you have everything that you need....all of the tools you need to be successful."

The UAB sophomore is majoring in film and he, like thousands of others, will attend the 18th Annual R.E.S.P.E.C.T rally which is a acryomn for: Respect every single person created today.

The rally will provide students with school supplies and feature live entertainment.

"It's always a great time.  Its almost like a party," said Posey. "For those that need the supplies it is essential. It's a good start off to go back to school knowing that you have everything that you need, all of the tools you need to be successful."

Organizers are calling on the youth and their families to respect people regardless of any characteristics that make them different.

Posey, 19, said he's seen a growing lack of respect from his generation and Pastor Steve Green of More Than Conquerors Faith Church hopes the rally will change that.

"Respect life. God gave life. You don't have the right to take life. Respect yourself...the way you treat your body....the way you present yourself," said Green passionately.

The rally, known for his lively music and large crowd, is vital to some students who would otherwise not get the supplies they need for school.

The event is also a help to parents looking to save money and prepare their children for the academic rigors that lie ahead.

" This is an opportunity to say there is a generation that's in touch with morals.  In light of that's going on...I think the timing of this rally is perfect," said Green.

Looking back, Posey credits his experience at the R.E.S.P.E.C.T rally with helping him to become the man he is today.  He hopes the valuable lessons he's learned do the same for a new generation of students.
