ETOWAH COUNTY - AL -

An Etowah County woman has been arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

Kimberly Dawn Roden, 36, of Altoona, was arrested on July 19 and is charged with one count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed.  The charge is a felony.

Roden admitted to ingesting loratabs and smoking marijuana during her pregnancy.  Her child was delivered prematurely in June and remains in a Birmingham hospital at this time.

"It is simply unacceptable for an adult to endanger a child's life with their choice to use drugs," says Sheriff Todd Entrekin.  "I have committed to protecting those who cannot protect themselves.  Anyone who chooses to use drugs and endanger the life of an innocent child will be held responsible, arrested and charged accordingly."

Roden was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on a $20,000 property bond.
