COLUMBIANA - AL -

A manhunt has been underway all day in Shelby County. Sheriff deputies are looking for 36-year-old Shannon Loyd Crumpton. He escaped from the state's Red Eagle Work release program in Montgomery over the weekend.

Deputies say he was last seen in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with an Alabama tag number 14A78M. That car was reported stolen in Clanton early Sunday morning. He is considered armed and dangerous.

According to the sheriff's office, Calera Police officers spotted a car matching the description of the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and a chase began. That's how authorities ended up in the Summerhill Community.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the area and have received assistance from several agencies. Authorities even used a helicopter to do an aerial search. Aside from the Sunday morning robbery, the sheriff's office also says Shannon Loyd Crumpton is a suspect in another convenience store robbery that happened in Jemison July 20th. He was wearing a Chilton County High School football shirt and shorts and left in cars matching the get-away vehicle in both robberies.

Neighbors in the Summerhill community and surrounding communities have been asked to use caution and be aware of anything unusual.

David Everly says, "I hate it for this quiet little community. Everybody here in this community knows each other and I feel bad about it, but I'm glad the police have showed up in force the way they have." People are encouraged to lock their doors, including their vehicles and report any suspicious activity..

You can reach the sheriff's office at 205-669-4181 or call the Secret Witness Line at 205-669-9116.
