The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says multiple agencies rescued a 14 year old boy early Thursday, after he fell from a rock ledge yesterday evening, Wednesday, July 10, 2013.

It happened on Buzzard Rock Road in west Etowah County.  Natalie Barton, PIO for the Sheriff's Office, says the boy was walking with a group of people in a wooded area near a rock ledge when he slipped and fell approximately 100-feet down a steep embankment shortly after 8:00 PM on Wednesday.

"We are thankful for the cooperation among agencies in this successful rescue," says Sheriff Todd Entrekin. "Many residents in the area offered their assistance and provided ATV's for first responders to use. We are grateful for their help."

They say he was alert and speaking when found. Crews lifted him to the top of the ledge.  The boy was transported to a local hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

A number of agencies were able to bring him up safely. They include the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, West Etowah and Altoona volunteer fire departments, A-Med Ambulance Service, high angle rescue teams from Oneonta and Boaz fire departments and LifeSaver Helicopter.
