STRING OF JEFFERSON COUNTY VEHICLE BURGLARIES:

At least three people are wanted for a rash of car break-ins that occurred in the Pinson area last month. They're also facing an attempted murder charge.

June 2, authorities said the suspects stole a white Mitsubishi Montero from a residence on Prescott Lane.

The next day around 2:30 am, the stolen vehicle and a SUV are captured on camera at a location on Summer Crest Drive in Pinson.

"At that time, you see an unknown suspect walk up to a driveway and casually check vehicles," said Jefferson County Sgt. Brian Allison. "They basically go and check the locks to see what's open and commit burglaries of opportunity by going into these vehicles and taking what they can."

Sgt. Allison said the stolen vehicle was later spotted on Pine Crest Road, and a police chase began. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle, and it crashed into a fence. The suspect was able to escape from authorities.

Several weeks later, Sgt. Allison said the suspects stole a weapon from a vehicle: "A homeowner noticed somebody breaking into his vehicle in his driveway. He went outside and fired a shot at the suspects. Using a stolen handgun that they had stolen earlier in the evening, they returned fire. So not only do we have unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, but they're also wanted attempted murder. They're stepping up their game consistently."
