Barons offense quiet in loss to Mississippi

Posted: Updated:

The Birmingham Barons could not deliver any offensive fireworks on the 4th of July, and fall 1-0 to the Mississippi Braves.

Mississippi got the games only run in the ninth inning. The Braves Mycal Jones reached on an error and later scored on Christian Bethancourt's sacrifice fly.

Birmingham's Taylor Thompson (3-2, 4.56) took the loss in relief.

The real stars were the starting pitchers. Birmingham's Scott Snodgress held the Braves scoreless over eight innings, while Mississippi's Mitch Atkins pitched seven shutout innings.

The Barons host the Braves again on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Regions Field.
