BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Two suspects have been charged with murder in connection with last week's fatal shootings of 17-year-old twin brothers in Wylam.

Stanley Chatman, a 26-year-old convicted felon from Birmingham, has been charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder for the shooting deaths of Jonathan Berry and Jeremi Berry and the shooting of the victims' mother, LaTasha Berry. The mother remains at UAB Hospital, where she is recovering from her gunshot wounds that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

Crystal Nelson, 21, also of Birmingham, has been charged with two counts of felony murder in the case. She is being held in the Birmingham City Jail on bonds totaling $1 million. Chatman is being held without bond at the same jail.

In March, the then 25-year-old Chatman was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Derrick King in Smithfield. King was shot and killed following a verbal altercation with Chatman outside a home at 517 10th Court North.

Chatman was booked on one count of murder before later being released on $75,000 bond.

ABC 33/40 has learned through court records that Chatman was released from prison in November, 2012 after serving five years for manslaughter, a charge which stemmed from a murder in 2005.

According to District Attorney Brandon Falls, Chatman was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of 17-year-old Derrick Jackson and first-degree robbery. Alabama Department of Corrections allowed for his early release for unknown reasons.
