Auburn releases salary numbers for football coaching staff

Auburn University opened its check book recently when hiring a new football staff.

According to the athletic department, the coaching staff will make $5.795 million this season.

Head coach Gus Malzahn's salary is $2.3 million a season and his assistants will make a combined $3.495 million in 2013.

Auburn will pay it's assistants more than the previous staff made.  However, coach Malzahn's salary is $1.2 million less than it paid Gene Chizik.

Assistant Coaching Salaries:

Ellis Johnson, defensive coordinator: $800,00

Rhett Lashlee, offensive coordinator: $350,00

Rodney Garner, associate head coach/defensive line: $500,000

Dameyune Craig, co-offensive coordinator/wide receiver: $350,000

Charlie Harbison, co-defensive coordinator/safeties: $425,000

Melvin Smith, cornerbacks: $300,000

J.B. Grimes, offensive line: $270,000

Tim Horton, running backs: $250,000

Scott Fountain, special teams/tight ends: $250,000

    Auburn and Clemson have agreed to a two-game series beginning in 2016. Auburn will host Clemson on Sept. 3, 2016 and play at Clemson's Memorial Stadium on Sept. 9, 2017.The programs have played 49 times in the past, including three times in the last five years.
