"Save Our Youth" reaches out to Birmingham children

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

The recent string of violence and murder in Birmingham has many people in the Magic City concerned for safety.

Saturday, city leaders joined together for the annual "Save Our Youth" program at the Central Park Recreational Center.

The goal is to get children and parents to sign a violence-free promise. It's purpose is to help remind children to stay away from drugs, gangs and gun violence.

"We want everybody involved because I am tired of seeing these kids dying," Parents Against Violence spokeswoman, Carolyn Johnson, said. "I'm tired of seeing violence. I can't even watch the news because every time I turn on the TV, somebody's being murdered. And it just makes my situation worse. And I'm really angry about it. I'm tired."

Motivational speakers were also at the event to offer guidance to the youth who were in attendance.
