Police are investigating two separate shootings in west Birmingham Saturday evening just hours after one man was killed in an early morning shooting in West End.

The first shooting occurred at around 4:35 p.m. behind Trinity Baptist Church near 9th Street West and 4th Terrace W. in Graymont. Police arrived to find a 56-year-old black male suffering from two gunshot wounds to the leg. The victim reported three black males shot him in an attempted robbery as he took trash out to the street.

The man was transported to UAB Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police have yet to make an arrest in the case.

The second shooting happened at approximately 5 p.m. at 1117 Cotton Avenue Southwest, which is in the Arlington-West End area of Birmingham.

Sgt. Vonrick Slaughter said a man, believed to be in his mid 20s or early 30s, sustained two gunshot wounds following an argument with an acquaintance in the backyard of the residence.

The victim was transported to UAB Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

Slaughter said the suspect fled the scene in a gold Nissan Maxima. He is described as a 5-foot-9, 180 pound black male with light skin complexion.
