Auburn basketball signs junior college point guard

Posted: Updated:

Auburn basketball signed point guard Malcolm Canada, which fills a huge need for the program.

Canada essentially replaces Jerome Seagears, who transferred to Auburn only to leave the program after less than a month. The only other point guard on the roster is freshman Tahj Shamsid-Deen.

"I think I can play right away due to my experience and my size and ability on the court," Canada told AuburnSports.com. "I can play quality minutes, me and Tahj (Shamsid-Deen) at the point guard position, we can play together. I can play some good minutes for Auburn an help."

Canada was a third-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American last season at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 20.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. All were team highs.
