FAIRFIELD - AL -

Alice Christian Academy in Fairfield is in the hot seat Friday after police stopped one of its vans carrying way too many children.

According to Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis, officers discovered 28 children, many of whom were not wearing seatbelts, in a 15-passenger van owned by Alice Christian Academy Day Care. The traffic stop was prompted after a concerned motorist alerted police of an overloaded van swerving on the roadway.

The children, all under the age of five, were transported to the Fairfield Police Department then back to the day care to be picked up by their parents.

The driver received a citation for reckless driving and driving without insurance.

The day care declined to make a statement regarding the incident.
