A federal trial centering around a prison beating death has been delayed.

A judge is pushing back the trial of ex-prison supervisor Michael Smith, who is accused in the beating death of inmate Rocrast Mack. Mack died in August 2010 while serving a drug sentence.

The trial was set to start June 14th in Montgomery, but a judge says he wants time to review wether defense attorneys had discriminatory reasons for rejecting four black potential jurors.

A defense attorney says age was the reasoning for dismissing them. The jury has four black women, with white men and women making up the rest of the panel.
