First African-American female hired as new postmaster in Tuscaloosa

A first in the city of Tuscaloosa.  It was announced Friday that Sherrill Palmer becomes the first African-American female to serve as postmaster in the city of Tuscaloosa.

Palmer, a Buffalo native, brings 16 years of USPS experience to her new home in Tuscaloosa.  She has worked in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Buffalo, and Birmingham.

She has served as mail handler; letter carrier; Supervisor, Distribution Operations; Supervisor, Customer Service; and Officer-In-Charge.

Palmer is a retired Master Sergeant in the Army Reserves.
