T-Town Rundown: Busy Summer Weekend

Tons of events going on around Tulsa this summer weekend -- with several offering a way to beat the heat and enjoy yourself indoors!

Arts & Culture

Philbrook Downtown is celebrating its opening in the Brady Arts District with free admission throughout the weekend. It's located in a converted industrial warehouse at 116 E. Brady St.

Tulsa's Shakespeare in the Park wraps up with Much Ado About Nothing at Guthrie Green from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The OK Mozart music festival is wrapping up a week of events and festivities in Bartlesville with the Amici New York Orchestra.

Also in Bartlesville, Happening Friday, June 14th from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m.-8 p.m, Bartlesville Art Walk is a free event featuring more than 60 artists in permanent and "pop-up" galleries along Dewey Avenue and Frank Phillips Blvd. in downtown Bartlesville.

The Woodcarvers World festival is taking over the Union 8th Grade Center. Admission is $3.

It runs Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Woodcarving, wood turning, wood burning, and scroll saw artists, from 7 or 8 states will be demonstrating their techniques.

Bubble Boutiques and Gifts will feature live music, performances and artists using their skateboards to create works of art. The event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, located at 2619 E 15th St.

Celebrating Flag Day

Horses4Heroes, one of the most successful equestrian service groups for the military, will be giving free horseback rides to Tulsa veterans and their families on Flag Day Friday.

Operation Free Ride Pinto will be held in The Pavilion at Expo Square from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Parking and admission is free.

The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center (JCMVAMC) will celebrate its 90th Anniversary on June 14 with a ceremony at 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, which is adjacent to the medical center.

The public is invited to attend the celebration which will include music by the Cherokee Youth Choir and Tulsa Symphony Orchestra's Brass Ensemble. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Tennis, anyone?

FIVB World League matches are taking place in Tulsa this weekend, with USA facing off with France for two matches Friday and Saturday.

Match 1 is on Friday, June 14, at 7:00 p.m. Match 2 is on Saturday, June 15, also at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for the matches start at $17 and are available at the Arby's Box Office, online at BOKCenter.com or through any Tickets.com outlet.

The U.S. team is currently ranked fifth in the world.

Sports and such

The Tulsa Shock are taking on the Minnesota Lytix at the BOK Center Friday at 7 p.m.

The Hard Rock Casino will house Xtreme Fight Night Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $42.
