Man dies in house fire on 22nd Court South near Greensprings Highway

Birmingham Fire and Rescue reports one person has died in a house fire Thursday night.

Birmingham police officers and firefighters responded to the location in the 100 block of 22nd Court South at around 8:21 p.m. Crews reported a person trapped inside the home shortly after arriving.

After forcing entry to the home and extinguishing the flames, rescue crews discovered a man inside the home.

"During the rescue operation, we did determine that we had a fatality." Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said. "The person was brought outside, but we were unable to revive him so it goes down as our seventh fire fatality so far this year."

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
