U.S. Open Delay

Play resumed at the U.S. Open.  A severe thunderstorm caused a three-and-a-half hour delay. Players picked up where they left off shortly after noon.

The first group had completed seven holes in about two hours when the horn sounded. Thunder, lightning and drenching rains soon sent fans scurrying for cover.

Jason Leffler Death

NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died after an accident at a dirt car event at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey.

The 37-year-old was a two-time winner in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Many drivers, owners and sponsors in NASCAR are remembering Leffler as a loving father to his 5-year-old son, an open person and a versatile driver.

Roger Goodell & Redskins

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stepped into the battle over the name of the Washington Redskins. In a letter to Congress, Goodell said it represents "courage, pride and respect."

Ten lawmakers reached out to the league last month asking that the word 'Redskin' be dropped.  Some Native American groups call it insulting and racially insensitive.

Goodell said it was never meant to offend any group. Washington Redskins owner, Daniel Snyder, has already said he will never change the name.

Facebook Hashtags

Hashtags are coming to Facebook to help users better surface conversations. The social network wants to make it easier for users to find content already on Facebook, and functional hashtags are the first step.

According to Facebook, many users already post hashtags anyway. Hashtags will be both clickable and searchable.
