Carnival Triumph returns to sea

Posted: Updated:

The Carnival Triumph is now ready to cruise again. In February, the Carnival Cruise Lines ship was adrift for days in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine fire. Passengers had to endure cold food, unsanitary conditions and power outages before the vessel was finally towed to Mobile.

Company officials say the Triumph underwent $115 million in repairs and upgrades. Work was done in Alabama and at a dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas. The ship returned to Galveston on Tuesday, where it will depart Thursday on a sold-out cruise to Mexico. The nearly 900-foot vessel can accommodate nearly 3,500 passengers and a crew of about 1,100.
