Update:
The Associated Press is reporting that the miner has died as a result of this accident.

Dennis Hall, a spokesman for Jim Walter Resources, tells The Tuscaloosa News the accident happened around 6:15 p.m. and involved one miner. He said a medical helicopter was dispatched to the site, in northern Tuscaloosa County near the Jefferson County line.

Hall said state and federal mine safety officials have been notified and will be conducting an investigation along with company and United Mine Workers' safety investigators to determine what happened.

The victim's name wasn't released.

Hall said the company would likely release more information later Friday.

A coal miner for Jim Walter Resources was injured Thursday in an accident at Mine No. 7 in Brookwood.

The man was hurt when he became pinned between a mining belt and a piece of metal. A Life Saver helicopter responded to the location shortly after 7 p.m., but it is unclear whether they transported the victim to a hospital.

Details surrounding the incident and the miner's condition were not immediately made available.

ABC 33/40 has a crew at the scene and will provide updates as more information is made available.
