The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an assault and stabbing that happened at a campground early Saturday morning.

According to a news release, deputies and medical personnel were called to the Blue Creek campground at around 1 a.m. on a report of an assault. Upon arriving, responders found a 29-year-old man with injuries sustained in an altercation.

A short time later, deputies were called to a nearby location to investigate a report of a second victim in the fight. A 49-year-old man suffering from stab wounds was located at an area near Highway 43 and Northside Road.

Homicide investigators determined the two men, who were acquaintances, had been camping with friends when they got into a fight. Investigators also determined that the younger man had been struck with an unknown object several times during the altercation and the older subject had been stabbed twice in his right arm and shoulder. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the incident.

No charges have been filed at this time and the case remains under investigation.
