Paul Finebaum, a longtime staple on the radio airwaves in Birmingham, is making a move to Charlotte, North Carolina to host a new show with the SEC Network and ESPN.

The former award-winning columnist for the Birmingham Post-Herald and Mobile Press-Register hosted the widely-popular Paul Finebaum Show on WJOX 94.5 FM -- a Cumulus Media station -- since 2007, but his contract expired on January 21, 2013, and the nationally-syndicated show went off-air while he and his management explored other opportunities.

Finebaum's return to radio will commence in August when he begins hosting a daily show from ESPN's studios in Charlotte. He will also make a variety of television appearances on ESPN shows including SportsCenter, College Football Live and College Gameday.

In August, 2014, a television simulcast of his radio show will anchor the afternoon lineup of the Southeastern Conference's newly-formed television network.

"Paul has incredible range as a writer, radio personality and reporter. We're excited to have him join the ESPN team." Justin Connolly, senior vice president, programming for the SEC Network said in a release Thursday. "Paul's show will create appointment television for viewers and differentiate SEC Network programming in the marketplace."

Finebaum is the first on-air hire for the SEC Network.

"I remember something the late Steve Jobs said: `Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.' In other words, dare to be different." Finebaum stated in the release. "That's what ESPN and the SEC Network are about. You have the extraordinary coalescence of the premier brand in sports combined with the preeminent conference in intercollegiate athletics.''
