BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Packed up and headed west, Refuel Ministries is Oklahoma bound.

About 10 volunteers are traveling with boxes and coolers filled with food to serve those who lost everything in Monday's tornado.

"I'm just doing whatever I can to help out," Isaac Hardison said.

15-year-old Hardison is the youngest of those who are going.

"I felt like I needed to help," he said. "Me and my dad came over...ready to help."

Ready to help and show the people of Oklahoma that Alabama cares.

"We enjoy doing this," Darrin Jarvis said. "We do the chaplains work, cooking together. We enjoy ministering to people and helping people and letting people know they are loved by people even in the south."

Others aren't headed to Oklahoma, but are donating supplies.

"I brought three cases of gloves," Joe Burgess said.

People, like Burgess. It's his little way to help.

"Do what you got to do," he said. "Do what you can do."

For the next six days the city of Birmingham is having a donation drive.

"It's been a great outpour from our citizens," Don Lupo said.

Lupo says a couple years ago, Birmingham was in the same position. Now, he says, it's time for Birmingham to repay the favor.

"If we can reciprocate and help them...that's what we want to do as a city," Lupo said.

Something, Lupo says, everyone can do.

"It's a real need," Lupo said. "Something that we need to get off the couch and get off the fence and take care of these people. They reached out to us, we need to reach out to them."

Items needed have been requested from people on the ground in Oklahoma. Items like gloves, wipes, toiletries, paper towels, water, canned food, sunscreen, rubbing alcohol and safety glasses.

The donation site is at the Boutwell Auditorium. They will be accepting goods Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
