20-year-old man shot, killed after fight with relative in southwest Birmingham

Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in southwest Birmingham Thursday.

According to Sgt. Johnny Williams, a fight between two men led to a fatal shooting at a home in the 700 block of 23rd Street Southwest just before noon.

Officers were called to the location at around 11:40 a.m. on a report of an altercation between two male relatives. Upon arriving, police found one man shot to death inside the home before arresting a suspect in the shooting at a nearby location.

The victim has been identified as Carlos Mims, 20, of Birmingham. Police have not yet released the name of the suspect.
