Police: 2 Birmingham homicide victims linked to family drug distribution ring

Hueytown police announced Wednesday the result of an investigation into a Jefferson County drug distribution ring connected to a single family. Authorities said two of the members are victims of homicides. The latest homicide happened in Ensley Tuesday.

The investigations began in March 2011 and concluded with the plea of a Birmingham man in Birmingham Circuit Court.

Police said the group supplied Hueytown and surrounding communities with drugs such as marijuana, cocaine and heroin.

Hueytown police arrested four men on the following charges:

  • James Earl Peoples, 30, for five (5) counts of possession of a controlled substance, one (1) count of trafficking heroin, two (2) counts of possession of marijuana, and two (2) counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Peoples pled guilty to a life sentence.
  • Donald Montez Peoples, 35, or one (1) count of trafficking heroin, One (1) count of possession of marijuana 1st degree, One (1) count of possession of controlled substance, and One (1) count of possession of drug paraphernalia. D. Peoples pled guilty to a life sentence, and he is currently in prison on our cases.
  • Tyral Eugene Peoples, 20, for one (1) count of distribution of heroin and one (1) count unlawful possession of controlled substance. Peoples was shot and killed in 2012.
  • Lederius Maurice Peoples, 27, for one (1) count of possession of controlled substance, one (1) count of marijuana possession, one (1) count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one (1) count of tampering with evidence. Peoples was shot and killed May 21, 2013.
