Music really does make you feel better.
A new study shows critically ill patients were soothed by their favorite music and it made a difference in their need for sedation medicine.
The Ohio State University research included patients in the intensive care unit who were placed on ventilators.
Researchers say participants who were allowed to listen to their music experienced a 36 percent reduction in their anxiety levels, compared to patients not offered music.
The ICU patients who were provided music also needed less sedation, with their sedative intake dropping 38 percent, compared to other patients.
The study appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association. #
