Women 'Go Red' for heart disease awareness

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of mothers, sisters and friends went red Friday to raise awareness of heart disease.

The fourth annual Go Red for Women luncheon--presented by St. Vincent's health system--took place at the Wynfrey Hotel. The event included free health screenings, nutritional booths and an oil tasting bar.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Organizers hope attendees will take what they learned back to their communities.

"It is preventable. So, just being able to get our message out there, and teach people how they can go about preventing heart disease in their lives and their family lives is really important," volunteer Whitney Massey says.

This is the tenth anniversary for the Go Red for Women Movement.
