There was a big turnout for Birmingham's portion of the Alabama Kidney Foundation Walk-A-Thon on Saturday.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, close to 300 people participated in the walk at Homewood's Waldrop Stadium. ABC 33/40's Chief Meteorologist James Spann was also in attendance for Saturday's event as the Honorary Walk Chair.

The event was part of a series of walks which took place in cities around the state. The other cities participating include Dothan, Mobile, Montgomery and Huntsville.

The Alabama Kidney Foundation says the money raised by the Walk-A-Thon will be used to fund three programs offered, free of charge, to Alabama kidney patients in need. These free programs include Financial Assistance, Education, and Support Services.
