Volunteers Help Renew North Tulsa Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

Paint brushes, ladders and plenty of cleanup could be found in a north Tulsa neighborhood as volunteers gathered to bring some new life to the area.

Volunteers with Tulsa's Habitat for Humanity headed to the Crutchfield neighborhood Friday morning to pick up trash, trim some trees and landscape and restore the exteriors of current homes. The crews were in the area until 3 p.m.

"We're out here just really trying to revitalize this community," coordinator Rosalia Cunningham told KTUL. "It's a huge area and we're out here with the residents helping them beautify their homes."

According to the release from Habitat for Humanity,  by restoring current homes in the neighborhood with exterior repairs, removing abandoned and/or condemned homes and rebuilding new homes along with an overall cleanup of the neighborhood new families will be encouraged to call the Crutchfield neighborhood home. The organization has helped over 280 families with home ownership over the past 25 years.

"Seventeen of those new homes have been built in this neighborhood over the past 1 1/2 years and Habitat will be dedicating its 24th house in the neighborhood on Saturday."
