Football 101 for Women

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

For some women, the X's and O's of football can be a bit overwhelming.  However, there is incentive to learn if your partner loves the pigskin or simply because the football culture is so huge in the south.  The University of Alabama at Birmingham National Alumni Society is holding an event to help out the ladies.  You can take part in the second annual Football 101 for Women on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Hosted by UAB Head Football Coach Garrick McGee and his wife Tiffany McGee, the event is sponsored by BBVA Compass Bank. Ladies will gain insight and learn the difference from a fumble and a field goal.  The knowledge of college football will come straight from the UAB coaching staff. Last year, more than 80 people participated.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. at the UAB NAS Alumni House, 1301 10th Ave. South, with the fundamentals of the game, strategy used in game planning, player recruitment and the methods used to keep players strong and healthy. After lunch at noon, participants will go to the UAB practice field and run practice drills with the UAB coaching staff.  On-field participation is optional. Participants are encouraged to wear or bring tennis shoes or sneakers.

The cost of registration is $25 and includes a T-shirt, booklet and lunch. To register, or for more details about the event, call the NAS at 205-934-3555, or visit www.uab.edu/alumni.
