Exclusive: Suspect in Railroad Park shooting speaks

Posted: Updated:

In an exclusive interview, 17-year-old Justin Jones said allegations that he shot and killed 15-year-old Jarmaine Walton at Railroad Park in March are false.

"No I did not. I did not commit the crime." Jones said when asked if he committed the crime.

Birmingham police arrested Jones at his job Tuesday and he was formally charged with murder in court Wednesday.

Jones said Thursday that his life has been turned upside down since his arrest and people in his community now have a negative perception of him. He said he is innocent and he doesn't even know the victim he is accused of shooting to death.

"How can they choose me out of all people? What's the problem?" Jones responded when asked what he was thinking at the time.

Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper says Jones is the only suspect in the case.
