Altoona woman arrested for shooting into home, vehicle

Posted: Updated:

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. -- An Altoona woman has been arrested and charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

"Megan Meshelle Fulenwider, 29, was arrested on Monday, April 22, and charged with one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and one count of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle, both are felonies," states Investigator Robin Grant.

Fulenwider allegedly shot into a house and unoccupied vehicle Saturday, April 20, in the town of Altoona.  The incident occurred after the homeowner shot into the ground attempting to force several individuals off of his property.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Fulenwider returned in her vehicle and drove past the residence four times.  Each time she fired several rounds, penetrating the house and the owner's vehicle.  The homeowner's 12-year-old child was inside the residence at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured during the incident.

"This was not a random drive by shooting.  The discharging of firearms was intentional." Grant said.

"This incident was a very serious situation, one in which many people could have been hurt or killed.  I applaud the investigators for their quick response and arrest in the case." Sheriff Entrekin said. ""I would like to thank Investigator Grant, the Altoona Police Department, Walnut Grove Police Department and many witnesses that assisted with the investigation."

Fulenwider was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $10,000 bond.

Police in Gadsden are trying to return hundreds of stolen items to their rightful owners. Captain Paul Cody said officers bust a large fencing operation this week. Joe Pearl, 75, is the suspect in the case. It took a long time to sort through and document a very wide range of stolen property. "We've collected a lot of stuff," Cody said. "Toilet paper. We have non-firearms related weapons, we have karaoke machines, musical instruments, car stereos, underwear."More >>
