Suspect arrested for arson in Tuscaloosa

A 55-year-old Tuscaloosa man faces two counts of second-degree arson stemming from fires set three locations. 

Richard Monte Brown is accused of setting fires on East Hargrove Road, Dubois Terrace and E. McFarland Boulevard. According to police, Brown was sitting on a fence in Snow Hinton Park watching a dumpster fire while having an open container of beer at his feet.  He was questioned about the fires and arrested for public intoxication and open beverage. 

Brown was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail but later bonded out.  Investigators obtained warrants on Brown for all three fires and located him on E. 22nd Avenue Tuesday afternoon. 

Brown is at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $33,000 bond.
