BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Birmingham Police have made arrest in the Railroad Park shooting. A teenager is now being held in connection with the St. Patrick's day homicide of 15-year-old Jarmaine Walton.

Justin Jones, 17, of Birmingham, arrived at the Jefferson County Jail just after 7 p.m. Tuesday night. He is charged with murder and is being held under a $200,000 bond. Birmingham Police tell us they're confident he was the only shooter.

They were the words an entire city had been waiting to hear:

"I am pleased to announce a suspect has been arrested and charged in the homicide investigation connected to the shooting at Railroad Park," Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper said.

"It should send a message- especially to young people - you cannot fire a gun, kill someone, and expect to get away with it," Birmingham Mayor William Bell said.

Walton was shot at Railroad Park Sunday, March 17th- and died the next morning at UAB Hospital.

Jones was arrested at 5:15 Tuesday night at his place of employment in Homewood, a Sonic fast-food restaurant on Valley Avenue. Birmingham Police could not release any other details, other than to say he cooperated during the arrest.

"Once they got started it didn't take long- about 30 minutes- we were able to arrest him," Chief Roper said. "He did not resist arrest. We were able to get him handcuffed and transported very peaceably."

Birmingham Police wouldn't release how they found Jones, but credit a combination of detective work and information from the public.

"They've turned over every rock searching for the truth," Chief Roper said. "I never doubted that we would solve the case but we knew it would take time. As difficult as a case it is, it's a case of following the trails."
