Court rejects Alabama appeal over immigration law

STATEWIDE -

The U.S. Supreme Court today Monday refused to review Alabama's controversial immigration crackdown law. That means last year's ruling against Alabama by a federal appeals court will stand, and, for now, the law will not be allowed to go into effect.  Alabama lawmakers passed the legislation in the summer of 2011.  Under the law, state and local officials would have the power to check the immigration status of public school students.  They would also be allowed to detain suspected undocumented immigrants without bond.
