Friends, loved ones and co-workers of Sam Foster are coming to terms with his untimely passing.

"We're just trying to work through the shock and work through the sadness and know that he'll be missed because he was a tremendous guy," said David Walls, Director of Sales.

The 35-year-old Promotions Assistant with Cox Media Group's 106.9 The Eagle Birmingham worked for the radio station for nearly six years. He was killed in a car accident on Interstate 459 Tuesday night, just one mile north of Hoover.

"This was a guy you could depend on. This was a guy that would work when he wasn't feeling well. This was a guy that if anybody needed something would call Sam," said Walls.

Authorities found Foster's vehicle overturned off the interstate, and Alabama Troopers say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Staff at Cox Media Group who knew and worked with Foster learned of the devastating news Wednesday morning. Condolences also poured in on Facebook.

Managers at the station have been in contact with Foster's loved ones and they say they plan to support them during this trying time.

"My hope is that we'll learn from it, honor him the best way possible, and work to try and take care of his child," said Walls.

Police in Gadsden are trying to return hundreds of stolen items to their rightful owners. Captain Paul Cody said officers bust a large fencing operation this week. Joe Pearl, 75, is the suspect in the case. It took a long time to sort through and document a very wide range of stolen property. "We've collected a lot of stuff," Cody said. "Toilet paper. We have non-firearms related weapons, we have karaoke machines, musical instruments, car stereos, underwear."More >>
