Could it be true? After all these decades some people have grown tired of TV. They're called the "Zero TV" crowd, those who have given up traditional TV services. This doesn't mean they've given up on movies and shows.
The Zero TV crowd found other ways to get entertainment. Fewer people are paying for cable and satellite and opting to watch shows and movies via internet and cell phone connections. It has broadcasters wondering how they can win this crowd back.
"We've switched over to Netflix and basically internet based apps. We have an apple TV and iphones and stuff,"said Tulley.
Tulley and his wife dropped cable television five years ago and never looked back. He says their eight-year-old son's innocence was far too important.
"When we set our son down to watch something and we walk back in the room and they're showing next week's horror flick commercial, we just got tired of what was there,"he said.
The Tulley household certainly isn't alone. In 2007, two million households fell into the Zero TV category. Today, some five million households have dropped cable and satellite, in exchange for video subscriptions like Netflix and Amazon.
Other than being able to choose age-appropriate entertainment for his son, Tulley says cost was also a driving force.
"We got to a point where one-hundred dollars a month to watch TV just wasn't worth it to us."
With Netflix, and internet based apps, his bill is down significantly
"Right now we're down to fifty dollars, forty-five dollars a month. Netflix I think we're running about seven dollars a month," he said.
As for Neilson, the challenge trying to figure out how to include this group into their ratings.
