Crime Stoppers April 16: Tips needed in Vestavia Hills home improvement scam

VESTAVIA HILLS HOME IMPROVEMENT SCAM:

Crime Stoppers needs your help locating three suspects wanted in connection with a  home improvement scam that occurred March 29th in Vestavia Hills. A picture of one of the suspects, 37-year-old Bill Braxton of North Augusta, SC, is posted to the right of this story.

Below is a news release from Vestavia Hills Police Department:

VHPD Detectives obtained a felony warrant for Theft of Property 1st degree ($30,000 bond), through the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for Bill Braxton, 37, of North Augusta, SC in connection to a home improvement scam.

Braxton is also wanted in South Carolina with nationwide extradition for Probation Violation.

On 3/29/13, Braxton, along with two accomplices, approached an elderly resident in reference to "refinishing" her asphalt driveway. In a span of approximately thirty minutes, the suspects painted some glossy black substance on the driveway & demanded $9,000.00 in payment from the victim. The victim said she felt pressured into writing the check, which was subsequently cashed by Braxton at a local bank.

The accomplices were described as two white males, one in his 50's with graying hair, 5'10"/200 and the other in his 20's with brown hair, approximately 5'8"/170. The suspects were in a white, 4-door truck, with a flat bed & hydraulic pump on the back.
