Birmingham City Councilor expands nonviolence campaign

Posted: Updated:

Birmingham city councilor Jay Roberson is taking his "100 Days of Nonviolence" campaign national.

Just this month, Roberson helped launch a 50-day version of the program in Atlanta. He tells us next month he will launch a similar nonviolence in campaign in Jackson, Mississippi with two others to follow in South Carolina. The initiative seeks to teach young people to talk out their problems rather than resort to violent behavior.

"You do things to make a difference not knowing the accolades or the magnitude of what might impact the community, I think that is why I am here to serve and make a difference," Roberson says.

The campaign began in 2010. Each year, the Birmingham-based initiative concludes on MLK Day.
