CENTER POINT - AL -

Jefferson County sheriff deputies are investigating a shooting that injured a bystander.  It happened around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon on the 1800 block of Bond Circle NE in Center Point.  Deputies say two juveniles got into an argument with an adult male at Center Point High School after he nearly hit one of them with his car.  A school resource officer asked the male driver to leave the property.

A short time later, the two juveniles were in a car at the intersection of Martinique Drive and Polly Reed Road waiting in traffic.  The adult driver, from the earlier confrontation, drove by and fired a shot at them.  The bullet missed the juveniles, but struck a bystander who was walking near the road.

Deputies say the 53 year old victim suffered a gunshot wound to his head.  The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The 21 year old suspect is expected to be formally charged Wednesday with first degree assault and two counts of attempted murder.
