A report and recommendation regarding allegations of professional misconduct and the resignation of two Pell City High School coaches will be made to the Pell City Board of Education Thursday, according to school officials.

ABC 33/40 confirmed Tuesday that head football coach David Shores and assistant Jon Clements resigned.

Shores' resignation comes just two seasons after being hired as the Panthers' head coach in February of 2011. Before accepting the job, Shores had previously been the head coach at Spain Park High School, but he was removed from his position in 2010 following an investigation into a physical altercation with one of his former players.

Wednesday, Pell City Schools Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hathcock released the following statement:

"Legal constraints prevent me from commentating on personnel matters while they are under investigation.

"Our practice in every case where there are allegations of professional misconduct is to thoroughly investigate and deal appropriately with the situation once all the facts are known.

"A matter is under review with information still being gathered. A report and recommendation will be made to the Pell City Board at its special called meeting on April 4.

Further comment at this time would be inappropriate."

The school board meeting is scheduled for 4 pm.
