School Superintendent Asked to Repay Almost $80,000

Posted: Updated:

A former school superintendent in central Alabama has been asked to repay almost $80,000 after a state audit determined his buyout was unauthorized.

The audit completed Friday found the Autauga County Board of Education did not have the authority to offer the buyout to former superintendent Greg Faulkner.  The audit claims that the board did not have the authority to buy out an elected superintendent's term office.

Faulkner received over $79,000 to retire in April of 2012 instead of at the end of his term in December.
