Update from Jefferson County Sheriff's Office:

The body recovered from the Warrior River was in such a decomposed state it was not possible to determine any sign of foul play, gender or race. We are waiting on the medical examiner's report to make those determinations. In the meantime we will be checking missing persons reports here and in surrounding areas for possibilities or leads.

A search and rescue team from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was called to the Warrior River Wednesday afternoon to assist in the recovery of a dead body.

Deputies discovered the body of a fisherman in the water at the end of Smith's Camp Road near Oak Grove at around 3 p.m. A rescue team and boat was requested at the scene to retrieve the body.

The man's identity is unknown at this time and it is unclear how he died.
