Deputies still awaiting positive identification of man struck, killed by train Friday

Posted: Updated:

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is still awaiting the identity of the man struck and killed by a train Friday night.

Deputies were called to a railroad crossing on Morris-Majestic Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a person being struck by a CSX Railroad train. Deputies learned that a man was seen on the track and appeared to ignore the train horn.

A search was conducted and the body of a man was discovered along the tracks at about 10:45 pm. It was not immediately clear why the man was on the tracks.

Detectives believe the victim is a 28-year-old Warrior man who was often seen walking on the tracks, but they are awaiting positive identification from the coroner's office.
